The WAGE Center staff, in conjunction with Kingdom Reigning Worship Center in Albany and Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Delmar, provided more than 50 filled backpacks to members of the community at a “Street Reach” event on the corner of Lark Street and Clinton Avenue on Saturday, August 27, 2016.
WAGE Center staff filled backpacks with school supplies purchased with a grant from Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Delmar for 52 children who received the packs at the “Street Reach” event sponsored by the Kingdom Reigning Worship Center.
By partnering with area organizations and churches, the WAGE Center is able to provide assistance in the form of employment readiness and training activities to housing, case management and counseling services to address a participant’s holistic approach to becoming self-sufficient. Additional workshops and outreach events allow for other personal enrichment opportunities to supplement employment and housing assistance.
Saturday’s “Street Reach” provided an opportunity for community members to spend an afternoon in positive fellowship, enjoying the food, music and evangelism provided by Kingdom Reigning Worship Center. Fifty-two children carried their backpacks filled with pens, pencils, notebooks, markers and glue sticks away from the event to start the school year off on the right foot.
Pastor Patrick Avery of Albany’s Kingdom Reigning Worship Center explained that the choice of location on the corner of Lark Street and Clinton Avenue was an intentional one, intended to bring hope to a community where it is needed. More than 150 neighbors attended the event.
This is just one of the many events in which the WAGE Center participates throughout the year to enrich the community through partnerships that allow expanded reach into areas that address not only employment and housing, but also the ancillary needs that contribute to achieving self-sufficiency.
